Travel Insurance for Cameras and Personal Tech

Get your phone, camera, laptops and tablets covered.

Home or away, these days we’re never far from our tech. Smartphones, laptops, and camera gear all have their place, whether it’s to help us navigate unfamiliar destinations, stay in touch with loved ones while on the road, or capture the unforgettable moments along the way.

But when we travel with all our high-value electronics in-tow, the risk of going from hyperconnected to disconnected is real. That’s why it’s important to protect them against the risk of theft, damage, and loss with travel insurance that includes electronics cover and high-value items cover.

How can I cover my gadgets and high-tech items with TID travel insurance?

Taking your tech with you? Great. TID covers a wide range of electronics, including smartphones, laptops, cameras, and other gadgets. If your items are lost, stolen, or damaged while travelling, your plan may be able to help.

For high-value items, you can add extra protection through TID's ‘Specified Items’ option. This allows you to list individual items you plan to take, adding an extra layer of coverage for your most prized gadgets.

Each specified item is covered for up to $4,000, with a total maximum coverage of $10,000. When getting a quote, simply select the ‘Specified Items’ option and list each item’s value.

Are there limits on what’s covered?

Yes, limits apply to what’s covered under our TID travel insurance plan. We offer varying levels of cover, Domestic, The Basics, The Works, and Annual Multi Trip. Each plan has a set limit for luggage and personal effects, including tech gear, as well as sub limits and excesses that apply.

If you choose to travel with an item that exceeds the limits outlined for each, you have the option of adding it under the Specified Items option for extra coverage. You’ll just need to specify the amount you want it covered for, up to the maximum limit, when you buy a travel insurance plan.

Travel insurance tip: Keep proof of ownership, keep any receipts, and police reports if claiming for lost or stolen items.

What standard cover is available for cameras phones and tech?

  •  Coverage varies across our plans. We can offer protection for the loss, theft, or damage of personal items, including smartphones, laptops, cameras, and other tech.
  •   Leaving your tech unattended—even in a locked car or storage—may void coverage. Always keep an eye on your gear, even when briefly stepping away.
  •  Benefit limits apply, with sub-limits for items like cameras and smartphones.

Depending on what plan you have selected, accidental damage may be covered, but wear and tear or manufacturer defects usually aren’t. Always check your PDS and read the terms and conditions, limitations, and exclusions.
